#01 Contending For Truth
Scripture reading: Jude 3

1.The Apostles Contended For Truth. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly CONTEND for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. (Jude 3).

2.The apostles contended for a common salvation. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write to you about the common salvation, it was necessary for me to write to you.” (Jude1:3). Repent and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38)

3.The Common salvation was given once and for all. Dear friends, I wanted very much to write you about the salvation we all share. But I felt the need to write you about something else: I want to encourage you to fight hard for the faith that was given the holy people of God once and for all time.  (NEW CENTURY VERSION).

4.There is but one Lord and One Faith and one Baptism for us to Contend for. One Lordone faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (Eph 4:5,6) 5.The apostles contended through persuasive discussion.  Disputing and persuading KJV Giving address and trying to convince his hearers TCNT Arguing and persuading people MOF Persuasively discussing BER. Arguing and pleading about RSV –the things concerning the kingdom of God.

6.Paul contended forth death burial and resurrection the dead. Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. (Acts 17;1-3).

7.The apostles contended when false apostles preached another gospel I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.(Galatians 1;6-9).

8.What four elements constitute “Contending” in our pulpit Preaching?
 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;
(2 Timothy 4;20).

9. What is the importance of Truth and Persuasion
“For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ (Gal. 1:10).”

10.We should make a daily habit of Contending for truth
And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ” (Acts 5:42).

Notes. If it was necessary for the apostles to contend for a common salvation then it’s necessary for us to fight for the truth also. Note also it was necessary that he wrote his thoughts which God had given him. “Out of necessity” expressing its urgency and importance in both letter and word. Declaration and proclamation.
